Dog repellers

We have to differentiate 3 types of dog repellers:

Aggressive dog repeller for hikers, pedestrians, delivery drivers, cyclists or similar situations.
Dog repeller to prevent dogs from urinating or defecating on facades.
Anti barking dogs from neighbors.

Aggressive dog repellers

There are 2 ways to repel the attack of an aggressive dog:

Ultrasound for dogs

Ultrasounds are mechanical vibrations with a frequency higher than those that can be perceived by the human ear, however, dogs hear them and feel discomfort. When detecting ultrasounds, dogs feel a discomfort in their auditory and nervous system and consider that place as hostile and dangerous. The dog will not approach and will follow another path. It is a preventive, effective, discreet method that does not harm dogs. It should be clearly and directly aimed at the dog and try to be calm. The ideal is to use it at a distance of about 6 meters for it to work at 100%. Before buying take into account the comfort of the product by dimensions and weight. When does ultrasound for dogs not work?
  • When the dog is trained to defend a territory (home) or herd. Evidently the wave generates discomfort, but their instinct or the education received from their owners will not make it easy for them to leave.
  • When there are several dogs.
  • When the dog is too far away.
  • When the dog is very old and loses hearing.
  • When there are obstacles such as walls, vegetation, or a bag or pocket.
  • When there is a lot of noise in the street and the ultrasound is blurred with the outside sound.

Defense spray

This is a pepper spray for protection against dogs or dog owners. It must be used at a distance of 4 meters from the dog and used only and exclusively in case of self-defense. The use of pepper spray is legal as long as it is used in a lawful manner. Using a dog spray is a foolproof method, but it is an aggressive system and can have problems with the dog owner. In no case will it injure the dog, but it will immobilize it for a few minutes.

Dog repeller to prevent dogs from urinating or defecating on façades

Dogs are territorial animals and mark their territory. To prevent them from urinating or defecating again we can apply these products: Before applying a repellent, the area to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned. It is almost as important to eliminate the remains of urine or excrement as the pheromones they have. This is achieved with disinfectant and abundant water or by applying the specific pheromone cleaner.

Dog repellents

Repellents create an unpleasant odor for them and prevent them from relieving themselves in a particular area. It is an odor barrier. Beforebuying you have to ask yourself the following questions:
  • How often can I apply the product?
  • Will it rain a lot where I am going to use it?
  • Is it convenient for the product to be seen?
If it cannot be applied frequently or it rains a lot, it is preferable to use granules or gel because they are more persistent. On the other hand, the gel stains more and the granules are visible. Spray liquid or powder that is diluted in water is more discreet and does not stain, but in case of rain we have to use them again.

Ultrasonics for facades and urine walls

These devices are effective as long as the dog associates that place with a place where there is ultrasound and therefore discomfort. When is ultrasound not effective on facades and walls? If you place them inside your home with the windows or doors closed because they do not penetrate walls.
  • If you install them many meters away from the ground where the dogs urinate because it loses intensity.
  • If the dog's owner decides to have the dog urinate or defecate there, the dog will have no choice and will urinate there.

Dog bark suppressors

The best method to silence dogs is by means of an anti-barking collar that emits ultrasonic discharges when the dog barks. We know that it is very difficult for the owner of the barking dog to accept the use of such a collar because they are usually unreasonable people and treat the dog like a human without thinking about the neighbors. Alternative methodsThe dog must always associate its barking with a nuisance, at a short distance and without obstacles. It would be advisable to use a continuous ultrasonic repeller to move the dog away from the area and make it bark farther away. Another alternative is to use annoying sounds or noises to drive the dog away, but by doing so we could be disturbing the neighbors. When ultrasounds do not work to quiet barking?
  • There are walls, windows, doors, fences, roofs, fences, trees in between. Ultrasound does not pass through obstacles.
  • If there are 2 or more dogs.
  • If it is more than 5 linear meters away.
  • If we only bother the dog from time to time, not always.
