Ultrasonic repellers
We have a wide range of ultrasonic devices for repelling animals of all kinds. Before purchasing a product with ultrasound we must be clear about the following:
What are ultrasounds?
Is it worth using it for animal scaring and pest control?
Are they harmful or annoying to people?
When does ultrasound not work?
Which device should I choose?
What are ultrasounds?
Ultrasounds are sound waves that have a frequency that the human ear cannot perceive, above 20,000 Hz. Ultrasound is used in various fields such as medicine, industry, security and pest control.
Does ultrasound work for animal repelling and pest control?
Yes, they work. Animals tend to have a greater hearing capacity than humans. Rodents, wild animals and birds have, for the most part, a much more developed sense of hearing because it is vital for their survival, to avoid predators, to relate to their fellows and to obtain food. When detecting specific ultrasounds, animals feel a discomfort in their auditory and nervous systems and flee from that place, considering it hostile and dangerous. Each species has its own degree of perception of sounds, in KhZ, and ultrasound devices emit ultrasounds specific to each animal, so that the effect of a certain frequency on a cat is not the same as that on a pigeon.
Ultrasound is not harmful to humans
No, it does not harm people or their health. They can have adverse effects if the person is exposed to very high frequencies, for hours, at very close range. If that were to happen, it could cause headache, pressure or ringing in the ears.
When do ultrasounds for animals not work?
Ultrasound is an effective, economical and ecological system for repelling animals. They must be used correctly to be useful. Let’s list the cases in which they do NOT work:
- Using the wrong frequency: each animal feels discomfort at a certain KhZ frequency. If we use the wrong frequency it will not work.
- Obstacles: the waves do not pass through walls, windows, doors, ceilings, trunks, branches, hedges, fences, etc. If the device is installed in non-open areas, it will not work.
- Distance: Ultrasonic sounds are not useful at a distance of more than 10 meters. At greater distances they do not affect animals. As the waves propagate in the distance, they lose intensity (like the human voice). The device has to focus on the animal or pest, in its area of passage, and in addition, the sensor has to detect the presence of the animal. If not, it will not work.
- Attractors: if food is clearly exposed, the feeding instinct will prevail over the discomfort or risk caused by the ultrasound.
- Nests: if there are nests, they will not leave. The instinct for survival and protection overrides the nuisance caused by ultrasound.
Therefore, we must use the correct frequency, at the right distance, focusing on the animal, without obstacles, attractants or nests.
Which device should I choose?
Each situation is unique. Before choosing a device you will need to answer several questions:
- Are you familiar with the passageways?
- What type of animal do we want to scare away?
- Are there obstacles? attractants? nests?
- Is it easy to change batteries?
- Continuous frequency or motion sensor?
- Apart from ultrasound, do we want to incorporate sounds or flash?
